Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (PTLLS)

Who is the PTLLS course for?

Individuals who are teaching or aim to teach in colleges, training providers, industry, business or public services. It provides threshold status in teaching in the post 16 sector. It is the first stage towards professional recognition in becoming a teacher, tutor or trainer in the UK.

At the very beginning of the course, you will complete an initial interview and written assessment.  This will qualify you to enter our CENTRE of EXCELLENCE.  Once inside you will meet our team of dedicated professionals who will guide you on your journey to success. Your tutor will guide through the course and be on hand for advice on completing your portfolio. Assignments will be issued along with a course book and essential reading. Homework and extra activities will help to build your knowledge. Your work will be reviewed and you will be provided with detailed feedback on a regular basis. What do I need to do to complete the course?

Students of the PTLLS course will need to complete a Professional Portfolio of work which includes:

• A 20 minute 'Micro-teach' session
• 4x 1000 word assignments
• A Personal Development Journal (PDJ)
• Your CV

On our PTLLS course you will:

• Become familiar with the tasks, portfolio and the format of the PTLLS course.
• Improve your knowledge of the post 16 teaching and learning sector.
• Learn about teaching methodologies in both theoretical and practical ways.
• Get tips and constructive feedback to increase your chances of success.
• Perform a mini 20 minute 'Micro-teach' session on a subject of your choice.
• Begin to build a professional portfolio to prepare you for further training and development.
• Familiarise yourself with information and terms used in the post 16 teaching and learning sector.
